Editorial Illustration

Spring 2024

This project is an Editorial Illustration. This is a type of illustration that accompanies and enhances the content of articles in newspapers, magazines, books, websites, and other publications. The purpose of an EI is to visually communicate and support the themes, ideas, and topics conveyed in a written article. In this project, we were randomly assigned a publication and a headline. We needed to create an EI that follows the theming and visuals commonly used for the publication’s audience as well as a depiction of the headline. My publication was the New York Times Magazine, and my headline was “Can a Building Be Too Tall: The Rise and Rise and Rise of the Supertall Skyscrapers.” In this piece, we were also challenged to include an handmade illustration and our own photography.

I had SO much fun playing and editing this project! I loved creating a palette of cool colors to use as skyscrapers overtook the sky, which contrasted from the black and white foliage. My goal was to create a bombardment of high rises.

This project used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
